About
Why Hark?
Hark/hɑːrk/ (UK) or /hɑrk/ (US) - to draw attention to a sound or announcement. It frequently appears in historical literature, poetry, and holiday music (e.g., "Hark! The herald angels sing")
We chose the name because our hope is the same: to help people truly hear the heart behind your business through branding.Behind every brand is a founder with a vision worth sharing, a story worth telling, and an impact worth making. Our role is to uncover the heart of your brand, bring clarity to your story, and communicate it in a way that genuinely resonates.
Through thoughtful branding, strategic websites, and business guidance, we help purpose-driven women articulate their value with confidence, attract the right people, and build businesses that feel deeply aligned with who they are and what they're here to do.
Doing Things The Hark Way
We are a brand and web boutique studio built on kindness, intention, and the belief that the most powerful brands are the ones rooted in purpose.
We exist because we believe the creative industry can — and should — be done differently. Without burning people out. Without compromising values in the name of awards or accolades. Without sacrificing the things that matter most — rest, relationships, and the simple joy of doing work you're proud of.
We built Hark to be the kind of studio we wished existed — one where kindness isn't a weakness, where success doesn't come at someone else's expense, and where the women we work with feel genuinely seen, supported, and celebrated.
Our Values
Strategy
Every decision we make is intentional — and intention isn't something AI can hand you. It can generate ten options in ten seconds, but it can't ask why this audience, why this direction, why now. That takes a human who's actually thinking with you, not just for you. Fast output is easy. Thoughtful strategy is what changes a business.
Narrative
Your brand is more than what you sell. It's the story behind why you do it — and we're here to help you tell that story in a way that resonates with the people who need to hear it most.
Design
Timeless. Intentional. Unmistakably yours. Visual identities that don't just look beautiful — they feel like your brand's heart and soul, brought to life. (Because you deserve more than a prompt.)
Kindness
This one isn't just a value — it's how we work. Every interaction, every feedback session, every late-night revision is rooted in kindness and respect. We believe the process should feel as good as the result.
Our story began in 2020, when Kara started her own studio and Sam became one of her very first branding clients.
What began as a one-time rebrand and website project for Sam's photography business, Nestology Studio, soon grew into an ongoing creative partnership. Before long, Kara was supporting Sam with social media and creative direction, and somewhere between project meetings and brainstorming sessions, a genuine friendship took shape.
Over the years, we also discovered that our strengths naturally complemented each other.
Kara thrives on bringing brands to life through visual identity, website design, and creative direction. Sam brings clarity through strategy, helping founders untangle ideas, refine their vision, and make thoughtful decisions with confidence.
In 2026, we decided to relaunch Hark Studio together, combining our strengths to create a more holistic experience for the founders we serve.
Today, our mission is to help purpose-driven women build brands with clarity, confidence, and intention. By blending strategy with creativity, we create more than beautiful brands and websites—we help founders build businesses that feel deeply aligned with who they are and the impact they're called to make.

My Why
I've always been someone who's fueled more by purpose than profit.
Maybe it's because I'm an INFP, but I've always been drawn to women who light up when they talk about why they started their business in the first place. The kind of founders who aren't simply building a business, but responding to a calling, solving a problem they've personally experienced, or creating something they genuinely wish existed.
I love helping founders take that heart—that purpose, that passion, that story—and express it through thoughtful branding and intentional web design. To me, the best creative work isn't merely about "making something look beautiful". It's about creating something that genuinely reflects the person and mission behind it.
I believe the strongest brands are built on a clear understanding of their purpose, their calling, and the people they're here to serve. When those foundations are in place, every design decision becomes more intentional, every message becomes more authentic, and every customer interaction feels more meaningful.
That's the kind of work that lights me up, and it's why I still love what I do after all these years.
My Story
It was only recently that I realized my journey started way back when I was 13 (90's baby!), when my cousin taught me my first lines of HTML so I could customize my MySpace profile. The very first code I ever wrote was a text marquee code — and the moment I hit save and watched those words actually start moving across my screen, I was mind blown. It was the first time I saw code turn into something real, something designed, and I don't think I ever fully recovered from that feeling.
And it didn't stop at MySpace. Of course I had to design every platform I was on—Friendster, Xanga, Tumblr, and Multiply. I was on almost all platforms back then.
That love got buried for a while. I studied Advertising in college and later spent five years working in the local advertising industry, which gave me a strong foundation in creative thinking, branding, and visual communication — but web development wasn't really on my radar during those years. It wasn't until after college, when I built a website for my very first business, that it all came rushing back. What started as relearning the basics quickly turned into countless hours of teaching myself to code and build full websites. I never imagined I'd enjoy geeking out over code as much as I do, but today, it's genuinely one of my favorite parts of the creative process.
In 2020, I took the leap and started my own studio — bringing together everything I love about branding, design, and the web, the same things that had been pulling at me since I was a teenager, on and off, until they finally stuck. Since then, I've had the privilege of partnering with founders across a wide range of industries, helping them build brands and websites that are both beautiful and deeply intentional.
Today, I primarily work with purpose-driven women who are ready to elevate their brand presence and create a stronger connection with the people they serve.

Behind the Scenes
When I'm not designing brands or building websites, you'll probably find me outdoors with my little family—my husband, our son, and me—loading up our camping rig for another weekend adventure, whether that's waking up by the beach, exploring hidden rivers, or chasing sunsets in the mountains.
I'm a proud boy mom and happily married to my favorite adventure buddy. Together, we've built a life filled with road trips, camping weekends, and plenty of muddy shoes.
When we're not out exploring, you'll usually find me moving in one way or another. Whether it's going for a run, taking a Pilates class, or dancing around the living room, staying active helps me recharge and reconnect with myself. One day, when time (and budget!) allow, I'd love to lace up a pair of figure skates again—a hobby I absolutely loved growing up.
I'm also happiest around good food. I could never say no to a bowl of ramen or fresh uni, and I genuinely enjoy cooking for my family (my phone is basically a growing collection of saved recipes I'll hopefully get around to trying). Above all, my faith in Jesus is what keeps me grounded and reminds me that my work, my family, and every season of life are gifts to be stewarded well.
My Why
I've always been more interested in building bridges than climbing ladders.
As someone who's wired for both strategy and heart, I can't separate business from the people it serves. That's why I've always been drawn to creative entrepreneurs—the ones who pour their soul into their work, yet often forget to save any of that magic for themselves. They have the vision. I help them build the foundation to support it.
For me, strategy isn't about rigid formulas or bottom-line-only thinking. It's about listening first—to your goals, your fears, your voice—and then designing systems that protect what matters most. Every workflow, pricing structure, and brand decision should free you up to do your best work and live your best life, not box you in.
I see my role as helping purpose-driven fempreneurs turn their vision into a sustainable, soulful business—without losing themselves in the process. That's what fuels me. And after 15 years, it's still why I show up every day.
At the heart of it all, I believe in living fully—showing up for my family, my community, and the people I serve. Whether it's through my art and vision, mentoring creative entrepreneurs, deep diving into processes, building cultures and talent or finding small ways to contribute to the world around me, I want my life to be about connection, purpose, and leaving things a little better than I found them.
My Story
I've spent over 15 years in business strategy, marketing, and organizational development—starting my career at IBM, where I led enterprise-wide branding initiatives and events, ran talent and leadership programs, and managed teams from the ground up. I learned from brilliant mentors and colleagues there, and I carry their wisdom with me still.
But my real education came when I left the corporate path behind.
After earning my MBA in Spain, I found myself navigating marriage, two international relocations, and the beautiful chaos of raising a young family abroad—all while building two businesses in Hong Kong from the ground up.
The first was Nestology Studio, which began as a children's party styling brand and pivoted during COVID into a six-figure family photography studio. The second was Casita, a playgroup center where I shaped the brand, customer experience, and growth strategy from day one before handing it off to new leadership.
Through it all, I learned that the best strategies aren't the ones that ignore real life—they're the ones that embrace it. The late nights, the sick kids, the unexpected detours. These will all be a part of the journey.
Today, I mentor creative entrepreneurs who are ready to stop spinning their wheels and start building a business that supports both their vision and their life. No fluff. Just honest guidance, practical systems, and a champion in their corner who truly understands the messy, beautiful reality of doing work that matters.

Behind the Scenes
You'll usually find me with my favorite people: my husband, our 14-year-old son, and 9-year-old daughter. We're a tight crew, always on the move—watching concerts together, hiking Hong Kong's trails, taking long walks that somehow stretch into hours of conversation, or setting off on semi-planned adventures that leave room for the unexpected.
Life with older kids is full —extracurriculars, academics, and all the noise in between. My husband and I are hands-on when they need us, but we also step back when they need to face their own struggles. Raising kind, values-driven humans is the work that matters most.
When I'm not with my family, I'm likely reading, writing, or soaking up quiet introvert moments to recharge.
Then there's my other passion: family photography through Nestology Studio, the business I built from the ground up here in Hong Kong. I've had the privilege of stepping into so many families' lives—capturing their realest moments, their connections, their beautiful chaos. There's something deeply human about holding space for people to simply be themselves in front of my lens. It reminds me why I love what I do, and why I believe so deeply in preserving the stories that matter.
